Sheremetyevo - the Largest Russian Airport In Passenger Traffic

Sheremetyevo has served 31,280,000 passengers in 2015, Domodedovo - 30.5 million, Vnukovo - 15.8 million, according to the press service of the Federal Air Transport Agency of Russia. Thus, Sheremetyevo has once again become the largest Russian airport in passenger traffic after a decade. In 2005 the largest airport was Domodedovo that was holding this title for over 10 years. However, beginning from 2010, the passenger traffic of Sheremetyevo grew faster. Last year became the turning point.

The passenger traffic of Domodedovo fell by 7.7%, while that of Sheremetyevo remained virtually unchanged (0.1% of growth). The reasons for the change of leadership are obvious: the key carrier of Sheremetyevo – “Aeroflot” - has increased its transportation volumes by 10.6%, while the largest Russian carriers from Domodedovo, S7 and “Ural Airlines”, grew more modestly - by 5.6 and 6%, respectively.

Sheremetyevo airport consists of a few terminals with alphabetical symbols A, B (earlier Sheremetyevo-1), C, D, E and F (Earlier there were two terminals, Sheremetyevo-1 and Sheremetyevo-2).

Terminal A deals with business aviation,

Terminal B serves flights of cost air carriers,

Terminal C – serves international flights,

Terminal D (ex-Sheremetyevo-3) – serves Aeroflot flights only, domestic and international ones.

Terminal E – quite a new terminal, has recently been put into service.

Terminal F – ex-Sheremetyevo-2.

Terminals D, E and F are supposed to be integrated by a passage.

Moreover, the airport includes railway terminal for Aeroexpress and hotels. Aeroexpress terminal is situated next to the Terminals F and D, in the southern part of the airport complex. The Terminals B and C are situated in the northern part of it. The passengers arrived by Aeroexpress are transported to Terminals B and C by free bus, others, who came by other means of transport, can take a shuttle.

The airport of Sheremetyevo is located northwards from Moscow.
