The festival program will include 14 performances and concerts featuring stars of the world and Russian opera stage.
The festival was opened with the season premiere, Giuseppe Verdi's opera Troubadour staged by Efim Maysel.
The 34th International Fyodor Shalyapin Opera Festival brings together more than 50 invited singers and conductors from nine countries. It runs on the stage of the Tatar Academic State Opera and Ballet Theater.
Shalyapin Festival is one of the big cultural brands of Tatarstan and the oldest opera festival in Russia. It was founded in 1982 in the homeland of the outstanding Russian bass at the initiative of the director of the Tatar Opera and Ballet Theater Raufal Mukhametzyanov. The festival got the all-Russian status in 1985 and expanded to the international level in 1991.
