Five universities from Russia were included into the ranking of the best universities in Europe – “Best universities in Europe in 2016” prepared by the British Times Higher Education (THE) magazine.
The highest place in the ranking among Russian universities belongs to the Moscow State University – it took the 79th place. Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University took the 113th place, and Tomsk Polytechnic University – the 135th place. The 152nd place went to Kazan Federal University, and 164th – to the National Research Nuclear University MEPI. The ranking is led by Oxford and Cambridge universities and the Imperial College of London.
The study says that in general, the positions of universities of Southern and Eastern Europe are low. Russia is not an exception: only five Russian universities entered the top 200, while only one of them entered the top 100. This indicator is the lowest in terms of the ratio of the country’s positions in the ranking per capita GDP, the authors of the report note.
