The State Hermitage Museum, St.Petersburg has been included in the list of the most visited museums in the world.
The museum ranks 9th in the list registered and published by The Art Newspaper. In the last year The Hermitage was visited by 3,6 million people. It is noted that the previous year the major St. Petersburg museum was the 13th in the rating.
One of the most resounding exhibitions in the Hermitage of 2015 was Russia's first retrospective of the architect Zaha Hadid, who had died of a heart attack just before the event. The newspaper has also distinguished the display of the painting Ball at the Moulin de la Galette by August Renoir.
Louvre ranks first in the attendance rating, with 8,6 million visitors. It is followed by the British Museum (6,82 million) and the New York Metropolitan Museum (6,53 million).
Other Russian museums in the top list of The Art Newspaper are the Moscow Kremlin Museums at the 24th place with 2,1 million visitors and the Tretyakov Gallery on the 33rd place with 1,6 million visitors.
