Testing of Russian Scientific Device Started at ExoMars

The Russian spectrometer complex ACS  has been successfully put into operation for testing at the interplanetary station ExoMars 2016.

The Atmospheric Chemistry Suite (ACS) will look for methane in the atmosphere of Mars. The neutron detector FREND (Fine Resolution Epithermal Neutron Detector) has been developed for high space resolution mapping of neutron fluxes from the surface of the Mars. These fluxes will make it possible to assess the content of hydrogen in the soil layer at the depth of up to one meter.

The Russian-European mission ExoMars 2016 was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome (Kazakhstan) with the carrier rocket Proton-M on March 14. It will arrive at Mars in October.
