Bank of Russia Will Issue Banknotes Of 200 And 2000 Roubles

The Bank of Russia will issue banknotes of 200 and 2000 roubles in 2017. This was stated by the Chairman of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina, according to TASS. Nabiullina explained that many payments are in the range between 100 and 500 roubles, as well as 1000 and 5000 roubles. She added that the introduction of the new banknotes would simplify the payments of citizens for goods and services.

The design of new banknotes has not been determined, it will be selected on the basis of public discussion. “Russian banknotes now depict symbols of the Russian regions. We would like to maintain this tradition, but also to start a new tradition and make this choice public” – Nabiullina said. Last time the Bank of Russia launched new denominations in 2009, when a 10-rouble coin emerged. A bill of 5000 roubles was launched in 2006 and 1000 roubles – in 2001.
