24.09.2004 00:00

The number of people using mobile phones in Russia has totaled 60 mln, has reported today to journalists the Minister of American Communications and Informatization of the Russian Federation Leonid Reiman at the meeting devoted 10th anniversary of American Chamber of Commerce.
The minister also noted that in early 2004 only 36 mln Russians had mobile phones. According to him by the end of 2004 the number of people using cell phones will reach 70 mln. The number of cell phones in Russia already exceeds the number of home telephones.
At that, as the minister says, the issue of licenses for the third generation communication will start only at the beginning of 2005.
Mr. Reiman stressed that such putting-off is in no case a setback in licensing, as the ministry is ready to issue licenses. However it is the principal aim of the ministry to develop the second generation communication in regions of the RF, emphasized L.Reiman.
