Russian biochemists have found a way to detect mutant proteins capable to provoke a tumor. Results of the research work have been published in the Proteomics edition.
Mutations of DNA become the reason for local replacements of amino acids in cells, which cause oncology later on. By studying these mutant proteins, specialists will be able to find vulnerabilities of malignant cells and come up with effecient methods of fighting them.
The cornerstone of detecting cancer proteins is the mass spectometric analysis, which enables experts to establish the exact mass of molecules and their chemical structure. With the help of special software scientbiochemists compare the obtained data of mass spectrometry with the database of proteins of the whole human body. As a result they can reveal modified cells.
