Latest Coating to Protect Windows of the ISS from Space Debris

The coating recently invented by scientists will protect from meteorites and space debris, which can incur serious damage to the outer layer of the ISS.

It will facilitate repair of damaged windows, when in conditions of the outer space. Specialists of the Russian corporation Energiya will be engaged in testing of this material. The first trials were a sucess, as earlier reported by the company representatives. In the near future, the domestic enterprise plans to build new spacecrafts that will replace the already obsolete type of Soyuz.

Special glass includes particles of ceramic-metal material on nanostructural basis. In the course of testing the scientists repeatedly collided microscopic meteorites into a tested object, however its durability prevented any essential damage.
