Monument to Russian Astronaut Yuri Gagarin Set Up in Greece

Unveiling ceremony of Yuri Gagarin monument took place on the Island of Crete in Greece.

      This event is timed to the 55th anniversary since the man's first flight to the outer space.

      Russian astronauts Oleg Skripochka and Alexey Ovchinin were invited to the unveiling ceremony. A few politicians from the Russian Federation were also present.

      The monument was set up with assistance of the international charity foundation Dialogue of Cultures — One World. It is not the only monument to Yuri Gagarin beyond the former USSR. Recently a monument in his has appeared in Norway. These two monuments will not become the last ones of the kind. Similar monuments are planned to be set up in other countries in the future as well.
