Samara Scientists Engineer "Human" Hand for Robot Astronaut

Scientists from Samara have reported about launching a unique development that will significantly enhance the abilities of the robot astronaut. The invention very much resembles a human hand with all its fingers and tendons.

      Presently the experts are engaged in developing a special skin-like coating for the robot's hand. Its multiple fiber-optic sensors enable the robot to define both the shape and temperature of an object it contacts. An indisputable plus is the hand's ability to regulate the extent of pressing, which is a peculiar breakthrough.

      The innovation along with the robot will be delivered to the International Space Station in 2020.
