Ultraprecise 3D Model of Palmyra Made by Russian Scientists

Russian archeologists have created an electronic 3D model of the current condition of Palmyra.

It is based on aerial photography, which was taken during an expedition to Syria. The works were carried out in the framework of international agreements of Syria and Russia.

"Aerial photography of objects was conducted from the altitude of 350, 200 and 120 meters on the area of about 13 sq.km. On the basis of its results Russian specialists in the shortest possible time managed to construct a high-precision landscape and architectural 3D model of the current condition of the ancient city, which is included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. Thus, now Russia has the most up-to-date visualization of the present day condition of the world famous monument", - the head of the expedition, the deputy director of the History of Material Culture Institute,  Natalya Solovyova reported to TASS.
