Russia will Resume Moon Exploration with Moon Rovers

Following the decision taken by the Space Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russia will revive the program of exploring Moon by means of Moon rovers.

The new spacecraft will be based on the Soviet developments. Work on the project will be started this year, with 18 million rubles allocated for it. The same entities, which created Moon rovers in the 1960s will be project participants. The Institute of Space Exploration will head the works assisted with the TsNIIMash, the Lavochkin Scientific and Industrial Association, and others.

According to the research supervisor of the Space Policy Institute, Ivan Moiseyev, the new vehicle can be equipped with the best devices and made lighter thanks to using enhanced materials. He pointed out that the natural satellite of Earth still remains little  studied. The launch of the new Moon rover should be expected towards the late 2020s.
