Novosibirsk Scientists Develop New Medicine for Depression and Schizophrenia

A group of researchers from Novosibirsk is engaged in finding methods to fight the mental distress.

There is already some progress in getting an efficient drug. Researchers aim at achieving optimum means that will help a person cope better with depression, schizophrenia and other illnesses of the sort. The happiness hormone - serotonin - will be used in treatment. According to scientists, it will help to cope with the condition since this hormone exerts positive impact on receptors in the brain. In total such receptors are 14.

A person's mood, as well as biological cycles and thermal control depends on serotonin. Hence its shortage can lead to aggression.

Experts have established that all the 14 receptors interact with each other. It is a new discovery, which enables scientists to find the optimal pharmacological solution for patients with depression and the like conditions.
