Presently it is the only stage production of this opera by Pyotr Tchaikovsky in Moscow.
The premiere of the new version of Tchaikovsky's opera Queen of Spades in the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theater (MAMT) was crowned with a 10-minute ovation.
The opera was performed for the first time on November 6, which marks the anniversary since the composer's death (October 25 O.S.) in 1893. Pyotr Tchaikovsky died in St. Petersburg at the age of 53.
The public's great interest in the performance has been in many respects due to its production team that boasts top rank masters. These are music director and conductor Alexander Lazarev, stage director Alexander Titel, set designer Sergey Barkhin, and others.
