Yakov Khalip is a classic of Russian photography. The exposition gives a picture of the evolution of the Soviet photo art and highlights important historical events.
Visitors will see pictures by Yakov Khalip (1908-1980) from the Lumiere Brothers Photography Center, private collections and the master's family archive. The photos from various periods of his career trace the history of the Soviet photo — from the avant-garde of the 1920s to the stagnation of the 1970s.
The exposition that falls into into five themes tells about Yakov Khalip's work at film studios with Sergey Eisenstein, Boris Barnet and Nikolay Okhlopkov, bold experiments together with Alexander Rodchenko, reporting on the salvation of Ivan Papanin's Arctic expedition, war chronicles and photos for the leading Soviet magazines of the Thaw period.
Being classics of the Soviet photography, these works make it clear why Yakov Khalip's art is referred to as the synthesis of "photo avant-garde and film tricks".
