Leo Tolstoy through Camera Lens in Moscow

The exhibition in the Multimedia Art Museum presents more than 130 photos of the great Russian writer.

Leo Tolstoy disliked posing for artists and photographers alike: it was not only tiring and time taking for him, but also emphasized his high status of a famous writer, which was unpleasant to the master. Nevertheless, a number of unique pictures — both amateur and professional - have come down to us.

Photographic "tolstoviana" was created over 60 years — from the first picture of the 21-year-old writer to the legendary portrait created by the "father" of color photography, Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky. Among other authors of portraits there is Sergey Levitsky, Mikhail Tulinov, Ivan Dyagovchenko, Carl Bulla, as well as reporters, friends, relatives and chance visitors.

Especially interesting are photos from Yasnaya Polyana, which feature  Leo Tolstoy in various situations, such as working on manuscripts, riding a horse, walking, playing chess, drinking tea with his family, and the like

The exhibitions runs in the Multimedia Art Museum from November 8 to December 11, 2016.
