Will 2017 be Dedicated to Igor Stravinsky in Russia?
Valery Gergiev

The art director of the Mariinsky Theater, Valery Gergiev suggested that the year 2017 be dedicated to Igor Stravinsky, who grew up in Russia, but lives abroad.

The renowned conductor Valery Gergiev pointed out that around 90 to 95 percent of works by the talented composer are not performed in Russia nowadays. Unfortunately, Igor Stravinsky's compositions sound very rarely in his native country today.

However, this action might make it possible to promote the composer's forgotten  masterpieces music both in Russia, and abroad.
