An auction of Russian art is held by the Shapiro Auctions, New York today, December 10.
More than two hundred and fifty Russian works of art, orthodox icons, historical photos and posters will go under the hammer today. According to a representative of the auction house, these are both classics and avant-garde artists, as well as nonconformist. In particular, paintings by Korovin, Shishkin, Bakst, Sudeikin, and Makovsky will be sold.
Among the most valuable items is Alexander Samohvalov's work Girl in the Interior. The portrait of a young Soviet woman is estimated at up to 75 thousand dollars. According to experts, it is one of the best paintings of the 1930s.
Among other Soviet artists presented at the auction there is Nikolai Troshin, Olga Deyneko, Nicholas Matsedonsky and Solomon Boim. Experts pay special attention to Dmitry Plavinsky's paintings The Boat of Oblivion and Bridges over Arno. They are estimated at 65 thousand dollars.
Fans of the avant-garde will have a chance to purchase works by Pugni, Grigoriev, Burliuk, Chagall, and others.
