Russia to Study High-Altitude Lightning with Microsatellite in 2019

Institute of Space Activities, RAS has reported about the research micro-satellite Chibis-AI.

It will be launched in 2019 for studying high-altitude lightning. The microsatellite launch was originally scheduled for 2017, but so far only  the preliminary design of Chibis-AI has been completed. Thus the launch has been postponed till 2019.

The design of the new microsatellite is very close to its predecessor, Chibis-M, which has shown good results in similar conditions. The document reads that the microsatellite will be launched with the cargo ship Progress.
