The Ministry of Economic Development has offered to create a backup copy of the Russian segment of the Internet. According to the source, on January 11, the Ministry of Economic Development discussed the draft law on the critical infrastructure of the Internet.

The Ministry of Communications has offered to oblige operators to connect to the traffic exchange points that are registered in the state registry. This, according to the authorities, will ensure the transfer of traffic in the country and protect the Runet in the event of unexpected shutdown of the global Internet. Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Nikolai Podguzov, criticized the offer of the Ministry of Communications and noted that this strategy would lead to increase in expenses of operators.
