International Festival "World Drums" Kicks off in Sochi

A parade with 400 drums will open the international festival "World Drums" in Sochi today.

      For two days visitors will plunge into  workshops on drumming the djembe, cajon and bouran, as well as playing the mouth harps and steel tongue drums, bamboo flutes, Brazilian drums, didgeridoos, and bongos.  Engaging will be improvisational workshops and tea ceremonies, along with gala concerts of Russia's and world percussion stars.

      Musicians from Russia, a hereditary shaman from Guinea and a bearer of the West African music traditions from the Republic of Senegal will get together here. Visitors will also listen to bell ringing and try their wings as ringers under the guidance of an experienced musician.

      All comers will be welcomed to the festival and concert.
