Yuri Usachev, a Russian astronaut, told about the real probability of meteorites and space debris falling on Earth.
The threat has been overstated, the expert argues. He adds that the Interntional Space Station risks no collision with these objects.
Mr. Usachev explains that, despite apparent fragility of the Earth is a big planet, which is protected by the atmosphere. The universe being of enormous size, the probability of objects' collision is very little but it exists. He assures that it does not make sense to be afraid of meteorites and space debris, because this danger is greatly exagerrated.
According to the astronaut, the majority of space objects will burn up in the atmosphere, and certain measures have to be applied regarding the remaining ones. So, the ISS has learned to change its course fast enough to avoid a dangerous object. In addition, the science is developing and scientists are constantly monitoring the near-Earth space, in order to prevent any potential hazards.
