The Bakhrushin Theatre Museum has opened the exhibition Tarkovsky's Theatre. Hamlet timed to the 85th anniversary of the film director.
The exhibition is dedicated to the first perormance staged by Andrei Tarkovsky at the Lencom Theater in 1977. It tells about Tarkovsky joining Lencom, about rehearsals, and Tarkovsky's controversy with the stage directors Grigory Kozintsev and Yury Lyubimov.
Tarkovsky's Hamlet met with a mixed reception of both spectators and critics, and was removed from the repertoire soon. Was it a failure, or a find ahead of its time? The exhibition will help visitors find the answer to this question.
The exhibition runs at the Bakhrushin Theatre Museum till April 2.
