2 Million Tourists Visited Altai In 2016

More than 2 million tourists visited the Altai Territory in 2016, the further growth of the tourist flow requires the construction of new accommodation facilities, the Governor of the Altai Territory Alexander Karlin says.

"Last year, the tourist flow amounted to 2 million 50 thousand people. I think that this is a good growth rate. In parallel with the increase in flow, we note the growth in the number of facilities, since if you do not create an adequate infrastructure for the growth of the tourist flow, you will inevitably get a decrease in the quality of tourist services. Last year in the Altai Territory 30 new tourist reception facilities of different formats were created: hotels, hostels, tourist centers and other facilities," - he said.

According to the Governor, the region can simultaneously host 60 thousand tourists, and 20 thousand seats are offered in year-round facilities that do not close for the winter season. He stressed that the main accommodation facilities of the region - sanatoriums - have a very high load, including in the off-season. Answering a question about foreign tourists in the Altai Territory, A. Karlin noted that "this is not exotic."

"We note the increase of tourist flow from the countries of the near abroad, most often we see guests from the Central Asian republics - mostly tourists coming for health improvement." There are guests from Germany - a certain proportion in this flow is made of our former citizens, residents of the Altai Territory. There are tourists from Korea, Japan, and China.
