More and More Foreign Students Opt for Russian Higher Education

Last academic year the number of foreign students at the Russian universities increased by 10 percent whereas the number of European students skyrocketed by 40 percent.

Presently the Russian government annually allocates 15 thousand quotas to budget education for foreigners. In total more than 242 thousand foreign students are presently getting higher education in Russia. It is important that every year their number steadily grows, by 21 thousand people last academic year, for instance. Just a few years ago - in 2010/2011 academic year – they made only 153,8 thousand.

Most of these students come from the CIS, where the Russian higher education traditionally enjoys high status and popularity.

As compared to that the number of the students from the European Union is seemingly small – only 2,5 thousand. But it is important that last year showed significant growth of 40 percent. The number went up by 20 percent for students from India and 10 percent for students from China.
