Universal Eco-Solvent Invented in Siberia

Specialists of the Novosibirsk Institute of Catalysis of the Siberian Branch, RAS have won a gold medal of the Hi-Tech-2017 exhibition in St. Petersburg for the development of a device for the production of ionic solvents.

This substance can dissolve any complex compounds, with no harm to the environment. In addition, the technology can be used in the pharmaceutical industry in the future.

"Our device makes it possible to make harmless universal solvents. These organic liquids consist entirely of ions, the charged particles. Due to their properties, they dissolve the things that can not be dissolved with anything else - for example, cellulose", - the project's author, research assistant Dmitry Andreyev points out. According to the scientist, such solvents will become an important component of the so-called "green chemistry", which is harmless for environment.
