Paleolithic Venus Found in Bryansk Region of Russia

Scientists of the Archeology Institute, RAS, have unearthed an ancient figurine from a mammoth tusk.

The small carved statuette found at the early man's site of Khotylev 2 has been nicknamed Venus of the Paleolith. According to experts, it stayed under  the ground for nearly 23 thousand years.

"The figurine depicts a fat woman with hypertrophied belly and breasts. A cluster of large flint plates and fragments of mammoth bones, painted with ocher were found nearby. There are only a few dozen of similar figurines so well preserved in the world", - said the head of the expedition, Konstantin Gavrilov.
