Avant-Garde Malevich Painting Breaks Record at Sotheby's

“Suprematist Composition with a Strip Projection” by Kazimir Malevich has been sold at the Sotheby's auction for $21.2 million.

Initially, the canvas was estimated at $12 to 18 million, but lots of people wanted to buy the masterpiece and so the price soared. Thus the painting by the leader of Russian avant-garde and suprematism has broken the Sotheby’s selling price record.

As the auction house reports, four tenderers bade against the starting price and brought to a record amount of $21.2 million.
