Sberbank has held its sixth Green Marathon. It took place in 54 cities across Russia (a new record), and also in Kazakhstan, Belarus, and India (the country’s first Green Marathon). In Russia, 11 cities hosted the Green Marathon for the first time: Kirov, Kostroma, Saransk, Surgut, Syktyvkar, Tolyatti, Tomsk, Vladimir, Yakutsk, Yoshkar-Ola, and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
The length of the races depended on the host city, with the most popular distance being 4.2 km, or one tenth of a marathon. All races focused on charity projects and addressing social issues.
This year Sberbank and the Naked Heart Foundation joined efforts to hold the first charity Green Marathon “Running Hearts” together in Moscow. Its participants could choose one of three distances: 4.2 km, 10 km, or 21.1 km. There was a separate 10 km race for people with disabilities and health issues.
The goal of the event was to collect donations to expand the project of Early Aid for Small Children with Developmental Disorders. This year the run raised 50 million roubles, a record amount for Naked Heart Foundation. This is more than what was raised by the previous two runs put together. All funds raised during the Green Marathon “Running Hearts” will be transferred to the Naked Heart Foundation.
