Russian scientists have announced their intention to create an independent state in the outer space in the future. It will be named Asgardia.
The information about this has been provided by the developer of the Asgardia project, Igor Ashurbeyli, Doctor of Engineering Science. The Russian businessman is also the president of the UNESCO commission dealing with space matters. The project provides for the launch of an unmanned space station to near-earth orbit. Later on it will be developed into a huge residential complex. The first step towards the creation of Asgardia will be made in 2017.
It is expected that no international legal obligations will extend to Asgardia. The project of the space state has an official website already. The number of people registered on it exceeds 180 thousand.
