Sberbank  - the Largest Acquiring Bank In Europe

 According to research company The Nilson Report, Sberbank is Europe’s largest acquiring bank. In 2016, Sberbank processed 7.5 bln transactions via its acquiring network, an annual increase of 41%. Data on Sberbank’s business throughout Russia was used in the research.

      Second in the list of largest European acquirers is payment system Worldpay (7.23 bln transactions), and third is Barclays (5.06 bln transactions).

      In 2011, Sberbank occupied 12th place in The Nilson Report’s ranking. A year later the bank moved up six positions (with 1.3 bln transactions). Sberbank became one of Europe’s top three acquirers (with 3.6 bln transactions) in 2014, and took second spot in 2015 (5.3 bln transactions).

      Also in 2016, Sberbank for the first time entered the ranking of the largest online acquirers – over the year more than 100 mln online purchases were made thanks to Sberbank. Sberbank is the largest online acquirer in Russia.
