Rouble Falling Again

The Russian rouble, which has fallen against the dollar to a minimum value since February, has become the currency of developing countries that is growing cheaper in the fastest possible way against the backdrop of falling oil prices, as The Financial Times wrote on Thursday, June 22.

In addition to the rouble, reducing oil quotations adversely affect the Iceland krona, the Colombian and Mexican pesos, as the Analyst of Societe Generale Bank Kit Juckes noted. “The Norwegian krona and the Canadian dollar were more resistant, but they also lost 0.8 percent each” - he explains. The impact of this negative trend may spread to other regional currencies, as Piotr Matys from Rabobank believes.

“The greatest losses were incurred by the Russian rouble and the South African rend, which are more sensitive to commodity prices” - the expert noted.
