The number of Russians with incomes below the subsistence level decreased by 1.4 million in the first quarter of 2017, as compared to the same period of last year, and reached 22 million people on Friday, June 23, as the Federal Statistics Service reported.
Citizens with income below the subsistence level make up 15 percent of the total population of Russia, according to the Statistics Service. At the same time, average per capita income turned out to be 2.8 times higher than subsistence wage and totaled 27 718 roubles per month in the first quarter. As compared with the same period of last year, incomes grew by 1.2 thousand roubles, and as compared with the fourth quarter of 2016 - decreased by 8.1 thousand roubles.
