For this cardio surgery, the developers created the world's first device of auxiliary circulation, operating for the right and left parts of the heart.
Cardiosurgeons at the Meshalkin Clinic in Novosibirsk conducted the world's first operation to implant two mechanical hearts to the patient. This was reported to TASS by Alexander Tchernyavsky, head of the Center for Aortic, Coronary and Peripheral Artery Surgery.
"We have performed a unique surgery, the first of the kind in the world, having implanted two pumps (mechanical hearts) for both the left and the right heart sections. The operation being a success, the patient was discharged from the hospital”, - he said.
Alexander Tchernyavsky added that the operation would not be possible if Moscow scientists had not created an auxiliary circulation device - a universal pump that works for both the right and left parts of the heart. There are no analogues of this invention in the world yet.
