The estimated cost of Ivan Aivazovsky's famous painting The Sea makes more than a million dollars.
The masterpiece abducted from the USSR back in 1976, has been withdrawn from the auction Switzerland. This was reported by Irina Volk, an official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
“It became known that the painting View of Revel (originally titled The Sea, 1845) by Ivan Aivazovsky was put up for bidding at the KOLLER auction house in Switzerland” – she said.
The work of art was stolen from the collection of the Museum-Reserve “Dmitrov Kremlin”. According to the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in the course of interaction with Swiss partners through the Interpol channels, the lot was withdrawn from the auction. Currently, the department is working to return the painting to Russia.
It is noted that the estimated cost of the stolen painting is more than a million dollars.
