The Sacred Peaks exhibition of Nicholas Roerich includes 50 paintings created from 1924 to 1947.
For the first time, Nicholas Roerich found himself in the Himalayas during the Central Asian expedition in 1924. It was then that the Himalayan theme forever entered his creative life. Over the next decades, the artist created more than 1,500 paintings that glorified of the natural world wonder.
The Nicholas Roerich Public Museum in Moscow keeps one of the world’s largest collections of his Himalayan paintings. These art works were donated to the cultural institution by Svyatoslav Roerich in 1990.
Since the paintings are included in the travelling fund and are exhibited all over Russia, the Moscow public is not so familiar with them. The sacred peaks were painted during his travels across the expanses of Central Asia, and during his stay in the Kullu Valley.
The exhibition runs till January 14, 2018. Open hours are from 11am to 7 pm on Tuesday through Sunday.
The Nicholas Roerich Public Museum is located at the address 3/5, Maly Znamensky, next to Kropotkinskaya metro station.
