The Tourist Flow to the Resorts of Karachaevo-Cherkessia Increased by 20% in 2017

The tourist flow to the resorts of Karachaevo-Cherkessia increased by 20% in 2017 as compared to the previous year.

"The flow of tourists to the republic is steadily growing: according to the results of 2016, for example, the figure was 1 million tourists, and by the end of 2017 - already 1.2 million people. With a population of half a million people in the republic, we consider that these are serious results," - said the head of the KCR Rashid Temrezov in an interview with the agency "Interfax-South".

According to him, historically, the republic is represented in different segments of tourism, including the ski resorts - Dombay and Arkhyz, the balneological resort - Teberda, and  natural  resort -  "Honey waterfalls". "In general, the republic has the potential, which we regularly discuss at the level of the government  - to make tourism facilities in the republic year-round resorts," added Temrezov.

The Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia was formed in December 1992, after it had been reorganized from the autonomous area of Karachay-Cherkessia, which was established 12 January 1922. The capital of republic is the city of Cherkessk. Lying in the north-west of the Caucasian Region, the republic borders the Krasnodar Territory, the Stavropol Territory, the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, Georgia and Abkhazia. The gem of the mountainous republic is surely the highest peak of the Caucasus – Elbrus. The republic is rich in water resources including high-altitude lakes, waterfalls and 172 rivers, big and small. The republic's coat of arms is round-shaped with yellow background symbolizing sunny Karachay-Cherkessia. The mountain in the centre stands for Elbrus – the symbol of eternity, power and greatness. The outline of Elbrus lies on the blue circle representing the blue sky and waters. On the both sides of the circle there are rhododendrons – an emblem of piece, health and purity.
