The Airport of Saransk (Mordovia) has accepted the first regular flight on Wednesday after reconstruction.

The first flight to the airport was that of “Pobeda” Airline Company departing from Moscow. As previously reported, the airport of Saransk was closed for a large-scale reconstruction from January 1, 2017, during that time the works were carried that included reconstruction of the runway, construction of new taxiways, air traffic control facilities, expansion of the parking apron with an increase in aircraft parking places, construction of a permanent terminal and a temporary terminal (to provide places for World Cup-2018).

The total cost of the facility construction amounted to about 3.5 billion roubles.

Saransk is a very sporty city. It did not stand aside from the high world achievements even earlier: race walking competitions amazed the whole country after the success of the champion walker - Yevgeny Maskinskov, a native of Mordovia. Nowadays, thanks to the construction of the new Ice Stadium, figure skating has become one more sports of Mordovia, in addition to race walking. Running, cycling and roller skating have always been popular in Saransk.
