Mordovian Reserve may be Closed during FIFA World Cup 2018

The access to the Mordovian Reserve may be restricted for foreign tourists who will visit Saransk during the FIFA World Cup 2018.

“The restrictive measures on the regulations for the visits of foreign tourists to the Smidovich Reserve are being considered due of the proximity of the territory to the closed town of Sarov (Nizhny Novgorod Oblast)” – the Deputy Director for Environmental Education, Tourism and Recreation of the “Reserved Mordovia” Elena Bugayeva told to Interfax. According to her, the forests of the reserve surround the closed town.

“At the moment we are working out possible options for the visits of foreigners jointly with the staff of the Federal Security Service of the republic: we want to get a permission to organize at least four-hour excursions along two of our ecological trails or one-day tours not involving an overnight stay on the territory of the reserve” - Bugaeva noted.
