A large-scale retrospective presents iconic art works by the master of battle and ethnographic painting.
In the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val, visitors can see more than 230 graphic art works and paintings by Vassily Vereshchagin from the collections of several Russian museums. The Turkestan, Palestinian, Indian, Balkan and Japanese series are presented here in their entirety, as well as a cycle dedicated to the Russian North and the "Trilogy of Executions".
Vassily Vereshchagin is known as a master of battle painting and an enthusiastic ethnographer, who was keen on the history, culture and traditions of different peoples. His “Apotheosis of War”, “The Defeated. Funeral Service”, “At the Mosque Door”, “Triumphant” and other works are the pearls of Russian fine art.
