A concert commemorating Russian opera singer Dmitri Hvorostovsky took place in Washington on Saturday evening. The event was held on the stage of the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, the main theater and concert complex of Washington.
The concert was performed by the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) of the United States under the conductorship of its new art director, Italian conductor Gianandrea Noseda, who was a friend of Dmitry Hvorostovsky.
Initially it was expected that Dmitry Hhvorostovsky hinmself would take part as a soloist in the Saturday concert.
“Actually, it was him who suggested about six months ago that I should perform Shostakovich' Suite. Shostakovich provided the translation of Michelangelo’s poems and created this fantastic series about art, death, and the artist's duty to society,”- maestro said.
