The European Union has launched its last and 7th Sentinel Earth spacecraft from the Plesetsk spaceport in the Arkhangelsk Region of Russia.
This satellite from the Sentinel-3 family was developed within the framework of the European program “Copernicus” aimed at the global monitoring of environment.
Satellite Sentinel-3B will join the identical platform Sentinel-3A, which was put into orbit two years ago. Spacecrafts of this type are designed to monitor the conditions of the oceans, lands, and the ice canopy of the Earth.
The Russian launch vehicle Rockot, which took the satellite into space, was developed at the Khrunichev State Space Research and Production Center, Moscow.
