Kazimir Malevich Award was handed in to the best figures in the Russian comics industry of 2018 in St. Petersburg.
The 2nd professional annual award of the Russian comics industry was established for Russian artists, screenwriters, colorists, translators, retouch artists and comic book editors.
“It was created to support and reward the best of them, popularize Russian comic books and testify the importance and significance of Russian comic books,”, - the award manifesto says.
The founders of the award - Alexey Dvoeglazov and Alexandra Demidova – also lead the Internet podcast "Shelves" about comics. They do not believe that comic stories is the genre of children's literature, the tool of American propaganda, light caricatures or just superheroes in tights, and they try to prove it to everyone.
"It's time for Russia to understand that comics are the 9th genre of art, and the opinion that comics are antithetical to Russians is erroneous”, - the manifesto of Kazimir Malevich Award 2018 says.
