Serpukhov may enter the "Golden Ring" of Russia in 2019.

Serpukhov became a candidate for the inclusion in the "Golden Ring of Russia" for the next year. The corresponding decision was made at a meeting of the Coordination Council under the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the press service of the governor and the government of the Moscow region reported.

"This is an ancient and beautiful city, which is almost 700 years old, an Orthodox center, a pearl for history lovers. I am sure that the inclusion of the city in the Golden Ring of Russia will give a new impetus to the development of tourism in the region," the Governor of the Moscow region Andrei Vorobyov says.

Currently, there are nine cities in the "Golden Ring": Moscow region Sergiev Posad, as well as Pereslavl-Zalessky, Rostov, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Suzdal, Vladimir and Uglich.

In order to enter the project, the city should be founded no later than the 15th century, have an Orthodox look, a comfortable urban environment, and not less than 15 objects of cultural heritage, monuments, ensembles and sights. An important criterion is the infrastructure - the availability of modern food networks, hotels, transport accessibility, and equipped parking lots.
