From 25 to 27 August Samara will be hosting the 3rd International Festival 'World Drums'.
      
      Not less than three thousand people are expected to take part in the festival, including the audience of two gala concerts in Samara and Togliatti.
      
      For three days there will be workshops on various drumming techniques. Even novices will have a chance to perform in the gals concerts. There will be also an opportunity to learn making shaman tambourines, drums and percussion instruments.
      
      Among the honoured guests of the festival are American percussionist Gregory Long and the legendary drummer and percussionist Rishat Shafi from the band Gunesh, and many others.
      
      Drum culture is not very well developed in Russia; however, its popularity is growing fast, along with the interest in ethnic cultures.
      
      It is known that ancient drums of the old Rus' (the old name of Russia) were of a square form. Not a single drum of those times has been found yet; there is only an ancient picture of this music instrument discovered.
