Strong Spirits: Vodka, Gin and Absinthe have Risen in Price in Russia

Strong spirits: vodka, gin and absinthe have risen in price in Russia since early 2018. Their prices increased by 6-8 percent during the first seven months of the year. In July an average cost of a bottle of vodka made up 207 roubles, which was eight percent higher than in January.

The price of gin rose by 7 percent - up to 593 roubles, that of absinthe grew by 6 percent - up to 320 roubles. The increase in prices also affected rum and cognac, however, on a slightly smaller scale: five percent in both cases - up to 626 and 439 roubles, respectively. The growth of prices is not connected with the growth of excises on strong spirits: its value has not changed since the beginning of 2018 and is equal to 523 roubles per liter of anhydrous alcohol. The nearest increase is planned only for 2020.
