Electric cars will not be distributed in Russia in the foreseeable future due to low demand. This was stated by the Head of the Russian branch of Renault Andrei Pankov. “There are no problems in creation of an operationally necessary infrastructure for electric transport, but there is no sense in its development in the absence of demand for electric vehicles”, Pankov said.
Private customers are not interested in buying electric cars because of high prices. The prices, in turn, are explained by the fact that all cars sold in Russia are imported being assembled, not produced locally. This greatly increases the prime cost, according to the Head of the Russian branch of Renault.
