The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts displays unique works of Japanese art of the XVII-XIX centuries.
Most of these artworks very rarely go beyong their native country.
This exhibition at the Pushkin Museum, Moscow is one of the central events of the Russia and Japan cross cultural year. The exposition includes more than 120 works related to various art schools - Tosa, Nang, Kano, and others. Two of the displayed artworks have the status of “national treasure”, ten of them are “most valuable cultural objects”, and five are “most valuable art objects”.
In addition to masterpieces from Japanese collections, visitors will see paintings and prints from Russian museums. Chronologically, the project covers the Edo period (1603-1868), which is considered one of the brightest periods in the history of fine art in Japan.
