The Federal Service for Financial Monitoring revealed nearly 4.2 thousand companies owned by Russian citizens, as a result of an analysis of the “Panama Dossier” materials, as RBC reports with the reference to the Head of the Department for Counteracting Money Laundering Vitaly Andreev.
The most popular offshore choice of Russians was the British Virgin Islands. “The service constantly analyzes the materials published by the mass media, for example, the well-known journalists’ investigation, the “Panama Dossier”, as Andreev noted. According to him, many companies from this list are controlled by the “governor, deputy and ministerial corps”. Together they have conducted financial transactions worth a total of about five billion roubles. More than 50 percent of companies are registered in the British Virgin Islands. They next most popular states are Panama and the Bahamas. All the materials investigated were transferred to law enforcement agencies.
